A fortnight on grass in south-west London, and the most rigorously traditional of the four tennis majors.

Wimbledon is the only major still played on grass, and the surface shapes everything about it: shorter points, a different set of players in form, and a quality of light in the late-afternoon matches on the show courts that nothing else in the sport matches. The club's conventions are strict and largely unchanged — white clothing for the players, no advertising within the grounds, and a set of admission arrangements administered entirely by the club, including a long-standing public ballot. The second week is where the tournament resolves, though the first week offers the outside courts at close quarters, which many regulars consider the better experience. The club sits twenty minutes from central London by road outside peak hours, which makes it the most straightforward major to attend from a city base.
