Five days in Berkshire, established in 1711, and the most formally codified week in the British summer season.
Royal Ascot is a race meeting of genuine international standing wrapped in a set of conventions that have changed very little in three centuries. Eight Group One races are run across the five days, the field is drawn from Europe, America, Australia and Japan, and the form matters to anyone with breeding interests. The conventions matter equally. Dress is prescribed in detail and enforced by enclosure, the Royal Procession opens each afternoon, and the distinction between the Royal Enclosure, the Queen Anne Enclosure and the Village is a matter of formal admission rather than preference. Understanding that structure before arriving is the difference between a straightforward day and an awkward one. Ascot itself sits thirty miles west of London, close to Windsor, and the surrounding countryside is well provided for those who prefer not to return to the city each evening.

Arrival by air
- FAB — Farnborough Twenty-five minutes by road, ten by helicopter; the standard arrival for the meeting.
- LTN — London Luton Fifty minutes by road when Farnborough is at capacity.
Helicopter. The racecourse operates a landing area across the five days. Road approach on Ladies' Day in particular is slow, and air arrival is the norm for those travelling from London or the Continent.
