Six days in which the Italian houses show, and the city that manufactures much of the industry conducts its business face to face.
Milan is the industry's manufacturing capital as much as its showing capital, and that gives the week a different texture from Paris. The Italian houses show in their own headquarters and in industrial spaces across the city, the supply chain from Como silk to Tuscan leather is represented in person, and a great deal of the week's substance happens in showrooms rather than on runways. For private clients the city's advantage is the ateliers. Bespoke and made-to-measure work that would be arranged remotely elsewhere is conducted here directly, and fittings during the week are common. Milan is also compact. The distance between the Quadrilatero, the Brera district and the show venues is short, and the city moves faster than either Paris or London, which makes a dense schedule realistic in a way it is not elsewhere.

Why it matters
Milan is where the Italian houses conduct private client and bespoke relationships in person, and where the manufacturing base that supplies much of the global industry is accessible. For principals with an interest in commissioned work — tailoring, leather, jewellery — the week offers direct atelier time that is otherwise arranged around the makers' travel schedules. The city's compactness also makes it the most efficient of the four fashion weeks to attend.

Arrival by air
- LIN — Milan Linate Fifteen minutes from the centre; the standard business aviation arrival for the city.
- MXP — Milan Malpensa Fifty minutes by road, with full long-haul commercial connectivity.
Helicopter. Rotations to Lake Como and the lakes take twenty minutes and are the usual arrangement for principals extending the week beyond the city.
