Three days in Riyadh that have become the principal meeting point between Gulf capital and the international investment community.
The Future Investment Initiative assembles sovereign funds, international managers, industrial principals and senior officials in Riyadh over three days each autumn, and has established itself quickly as the point at which Gulf capital and international capital meet in person. The programme is substantial and the participation is genuinely senior, but as elsewhere the meetings arranged around the sessions carry the commercial weight. Riyadh has changed markedly in a short period, the hotel and aviation infrastructure is now equal to the demand, and the surrounding country — AlUla in particular, at ninety minutes by air — offers a reason to extend a visit that did not exist a decade ago. Protocol and dress conventions should be understood before arrival; local guidance is worth taking.

Why it matters
The concentration of sovereign and institutional capital in Riyadh during the conference is not matched elsewhere in the region, and for managers and principals seeking Gulf partnerships the three days replace a year of individual travel. The wider transformation of the Kingdom also means first-hand observation carries information that reporting does not.

Arrival by air
- RUH — King Khalid International Full business aviation handling; twenty-five minutes to the centre, with heavy demand across the conference.
- ULH — AlUla Ninety minutes by air, for those extending the visit into the north-west.
Helicopter. Available within the city and useful during the conference, when road movement between the northern districts and the venue slows considerably.
